Sky High Fashion Community Display
A group of 10 individuals from across the UK are currently creating their own interpretations of Army uniforms ranging from the Royal Engineer Balloon Section, the Royal Flying Corps, the Glider Pilot Regiment, and the Royal Air Observation Post Squadrons. The participants have been using our stories, artefacts and aircraft as inspiration to celebrate and commemorate some of the key operations and stories that the predecessors of the modern Army Air Corps undertook. They are depicting these on embroidered uniforms which will be on display at the Museum when we re-open in May. The garments will be then go on a tour of Hampshire and Wiltshire libraries.
Come and see the garments on display at the Museum from the 17th May to the 27th July. You will then be able to see them displayed at Salisbury Library from the 1st June to the 25th July, at Fordingbridge and Ringwood Libraries from the 28th July to 25th August, and at Fareham Library from the 26th August to 23rd September.
Below are some examples of the fantastic work being produced as part of this project.
Fashion graduates from the University of Huddersfield are taking part, as well as Hampshire based local costume designers, and embroidery enthusiasts, some of whom have connections to the Army and wider military. The group are holding monthly catch up meetings with Dan online to show and share what everyone has been creating.
